Whether you are creating nature photos just as a way to pursue your hobby and unwind your mind, or with the intent to share your art with others and inspire them, you need to be aware there are certain factors that influence the outcome of your efforts. Yet, if you do it properly, the results can be really rewarding since you will have a piece of art you can be really proud of and you will be able to take others on a journey they’ve never been before. Everybody enjoys gazing at beautiful nature photos allowing themselves to feel relaxed and as if they were on an adventure and capturing amazing moments right by your side.
You certainly don’t need to feel the need to shy away from taking such photos thinking you are not experienced enough, but love and enthusiasm are one of the essentials you need to possess. With the right equipment and a few tricks up your sleeve, you are good to go.
One of the most essential parts of your equipment (besides a decent camera), is the lenses selection based on your photography preferences. You don’t need to have a great number of lenses at your disposal, but it’s a good practice to have a few different ones based on what the main focus of your photographs is. If photographing breathtaking landscapes is what inspires you, the most suitable selection would probably be wide angle lenses that allow you to capture the big picture, so to say, including all the amazing elements that make a certain landscape pleasing to behold. Since these lenses will be your bread and butter, make sure you get a good one from a wide range of selection from the top players, such as Canon, Nikon or Sigma lenses. For animal lovers, the perfect choice would be telephoto lenses that would enable you to take photos of various wildlife inhabitants without getting too close to scare them or chase them away. This type of lenses is also perfect if you want to put a focus of your photo on solely the animal as the central part without any disturbance of the background elements.
If you decide to pursue this quest of making great nature photos you need to be aware that there are many factors you cannot influence, such as natural light, cloudiness, sunlight and other weather conditions. Do your homework, and carefully examine the area of your choosing and how it behaves under different weather conditions and decide which part of the day is the most suitable for the effect you wish to produce. But be prepared for the unexpected, as nature is unpredictable and it can always surprise us – always be ready to capture that perfect moment since it will pass by quickly.
This leads us to another skill you need to practice – patience. Even if you studied everything perfectly, that right moment for taking a picture might come much later than you expected, especially when it comes to photographing animals. Another tool that will definitely be of great use for you are binoculars as the waiting process might take longer and thus it makes more sense to use the binoculars to scan the scenery rather than constantly looking through your camera. When picking out your pair of binoculars, make sure they are light since you don’t want to add up to your equipment weight, and in addition to that, make sure they are waterproof because you will be working in unpredictable weather conditions. The range of selection is quite wide thus you can opt for more cost-effective solutions, such as Zhumell or Pentax binoculars, which offer a good quality for reasonable prices.
Before you set off for your nature adventure, get to know your equipment well so as to avoid any unnecessary mistakes and unpredictable situations. Read all the manuals carefully and take your equipment for a test drive to examine all features and be fully prepared. Don’t let that perfect moment fly away because you were clueless as how your equipment exactly works.
With love and appreciation for nature and a little bit of patience, those magical moments you experienced outdoors will be perfectly transferred onto your photographs. As with every skill, learning how to take the perfect nature photos takes time, but the results can truly be magnificent.
