Applications & Uses
Botany
Infrared photography can be used to detect diseases, insect infestation and other problems in plants. This is because plants normally reflect near infrared light (see Chapter 2 – Basic Theory), creating a glowing white image on an infrared photograph, however when they are under stress less infrared radiation is reflected. For this reason, in an infrared photograph a stressed plant will be much darker than one that is functioning normally and healthily.
The farming community uses infrared photography to inspect crops so that any diseases or problems can be caught early before expensive damage is caused.
