Outdoor photography always has a special impact on people and this is all because of the magic of sunlight. Throughout the day, light varies considerably and we see that in photos taken at different times. The different times of the day tend to give out distinct effects. The kind of effect we want for our image depends on the time we select to take that photograph. Any time of the day, yes even the middle of the day, can be used depending on the desire of the photographer and the kind of impact one wants on the photograph. Here is a brief account of how the different times of the day have different effects on the photograph:
Dawn
This is the coolest time of the day which gives out clean, blue light. The biggest advantage of taking pictures during this time is that there are no shadows and the aura is calm. The calmness of nature at dawn is at its peak. There is a certain freshness pertaining to this particular time which is always apparent in all pictures which are taken during this hour.
Sunrise
This hour is often referred to as the “golden hour” because the sun starts spreading its light and illuminates everything on the surface of the earth. Adding warm color and long shadows to the picture, this time is great to click some timeless photographs.
Morning
People who are avid lovers of nature photographs should choose this time to photograph their favorite scenic views. The visibility and colors are enhanced during this time and the photographer is able to capture the beauty of anything.
Midday
This is one time when it is not advisable to take the camera out and this is because the sun is at its full peak. There are dark shadows created by it and the light does not fall nicely on the subjects. A good option to shoot at midday is when the sky is blue and filled with white clouds. Afternoon
Photographing during this time is similar to taking pictures in the morning the only difference being that the colors are a lot warmer during this time.
Sunset
This is another “golden hour” of the day. Because this kind of light does not last for long, you don’t have too much time to compose so you gotta be quick. The ideal light is there for a very short span of time which helps in capturing some great silhouettes. The trick is to place the subject directly in front of the sun and take the light reading off the sky.
Dusk
This time around, the camera is able to capture colors richer than the human eye can actually see. The colors tend to become darker which add a stunning effect to the picture. Some of the greatest shots can be taken at dusk if one knows how to capture them.
Night
Night time is great for astrophotography. The possibilities are endless, the galaxies are in your hands. Combining stars and artificial light in the same image definitely makes an eye-catching shot,
The various times of the day hold different significance and gave distinct effects to the photos. The ideal time depends on the subject being photographed and the message the photographer wants to emulate through the picture.
