For those of you not familiar with SIRUI, they are the world’s leading anamorphic lens, lighting equipment, and camera support brand that has long been dedicated to providing photographers and filmmakers with the ultimate shooting experience. SIRUI products are known for their high performance at affordable prices. Prior to my first experience with SIRUI, I carried several brands of tripods over the years, most I was lucky if they lasted a year or so. In 2015 I tested a series of tripods and immediately released the quality SIRUI provided. For a Trek I have planned for 2023 I will be traveling to multiple locations in Australia. Since I will be traveling with limited space and weight, I reached out to SIRUI for ideas and they suggested I try their Traveler 5C tripod. I immediately said yes. As anyone who has attended any of my workshops can tell you, I carry a SIRUI tripod that is amazingly light.
Well, the Traveler 5C is actually better, as it is smaller, yet stills does the job.

A tripod that weighs less than 2 pounds can hold almost 9 pounds? Impressive.
So, I tested it. I took my Canon R5 with a cage bracket, hand strap, and shoulder strap which is about 2 lbs or 0.91 kgs, and then added the Canon RF 100-500L lens.
The total weight is right about 5 lbs, or 2.27kg. I then extended the tripod all the way out. Here it is.
There was a solid strong wind today, and the Traveler 5C didn’t sway at all. I tested the tripod by making a 30-second exposure and it came out perfect.
I would have posted the images, but it was a shot of back yard, and trust me my backyard is not exciting.
The head on the Traveler 5C is very compact, yet will easily hold my camera on the Smallrig cage I have on it.
I’ve only shot with it briefly, but I can already tell this is going to be my new favorite travel tripod. It will next get a full workout on my trip in January to Australia.

I liked the sound of the Sirui Traveler 5C
So, I just added up the weight for my bird photography and found that the total was 14#.
Here is what I use:
Nikon Z9
FTZ II
Nikon 12-300 F/2.8 FL
Nikon 1.7 tele extender
either a RRS BH55 ball head or more likely my Wimberley WH200 HEAD VERSION II
The weight limit on the Sirui travler 5C is 8.8#
I like the looks of it but may have to go for the S3203 instead! Do you have another suggestion? Right now I am using a Gitzo GT3541 which is quite heavy!

Interesting. Even though I have a bought a large tripod already, if I need another one, this is likely the one, mainly because it seems like it might be greater for macro than mine, and is a little smaller than mine. I have been debating getting a carbon fiber tripod, but Sirui seems like one of those companies with rather inexpensive products that are not bad, compared to many other brands.
