This is instant cool, and so handy.
If you are not already familiar with Think Tank Photo, you should become so. The company started in 2005 and has rapidly built a reputation for quality cases that are extremely functional.
I just finished testing this bag, their Retrospective Leather 7 shoulder bag and it is brilliant.
Now as a photographer, I am more concerned with function than I am with form. But when you can give me both, you’ve got my attention.
The Retrospective Leather 7 bag is extremely functional, and looks cool, . . . not that I care about that all.
Straight out of the box, this bag has the look of the rugged adventurer. The leather, they call it Dakota full grain leather, has that weathered look, and paired with the heavy canvas material has that old school look that makes you think “If this bag could talk, the stories it would tell” . . . not that I care about that all.
One other nice thing is, it doesn’t scream “I’m carrying a Camera” This would make a great messenger bag on it’s own.
Now when do you want this bag? When you are heading out for a shoot and all you need are few things. If you are like me, sometimes you don’t want to strap on that backpack full of gear.
This bag does hold a fair amount for being a compact as it is.
Here is what I put in my Retrospective Leather 7 bag:
A wide angle lens Tamron SP AF 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5 Di II LD Lens
My favorite, the lensbaby Velvet 56 lens.
My trusty 70-200mm.
Right angle viewer, extension tube
A small windows tablet, mouse and cord for shooting tethered. It will hold up to an 11 inch laptop.
Battery pack , extra camera battery, glasses, Altiods (a must) and stuff.
The inside of the bag is completely adjustable and I’ve used it for different combinations with very little effort.
One thing I particularly like is the design of their closure for the bag. It has the regular Velcro tabs so you can just swing it shut and go, but it also has what they label a sound silencer that allows you to open an close the bag quietly.
Overall, I found the bag to be quite useful. I’ve used it for a few months and found it to be a great quick shoot bag.
And I constantly get compliments on it. . . . . . . . Not that I care about things like that.
