Infrared IR Conversion
With this conversion service we will replace the internal hot mirror filter with a high quality custom made infrared glass filter. This will allow your camera to capture infrared light instead of visible light. After IR conversion you won’t need any filters in front of the lens and the camera will be just as sensitive to infrared as it was to visible light. This means you can hand hold and compose normally.
Focus calibration we perform on mirrorless cameras allows the use of all mirrorless camera lenses without any focus issues, just as with stock cameras.
Our most popular infrared filter is the Super Color IR due to its versatility in allowing stunning color and monochrome infrared images but it does require some Photoshop post production.

With this conversion service we will replace the internal hot mirror filter with a high quality custom made full spectrum glass filter. This will allow your camera to capture UV, IR and visible light all at once. For best results you will need to use our external filters in front of the lens to selectively choose one of the 3 light spectrums.

Ultraviolet UV Conversion
Have us convert your camera to a dedicated ultraviolet only camera. We replace the internal hot mirror filter with our high quality custom manufactured UV band pass filter. After conversion your camera will have much higher UV sensitivity and you will no longer need any UV filters in front of the lens making it easier to compose and focus UV photographs. Another benefit is the ability to shoot using wide angle lenses without the problems normally associated with external UV interference filters.
Great for skin damage analysis, eye wear protection testing, dental, forensic and many other uses.
Our internal UV only filters are the best in the world, are hard coated using magnetron sputtering technology on fused silica substrate and have the best UV transmission and out of band blocking available anywhere. This coating process is very expensive but we managed to keep costs as low as possible by optimizing the fabrication process and lot volume.
Our default calibration lens for UV is the Coastal Optics 60mm UV-Vis-IR lens but you can use any other lens that can pass readily UV light through the lens.

Hydrogen Alpha H-Alpha Conversion
Stock cameras have a steep downward curve in the deep reds limiting most of the sensitivity to the hydrogen alpha wavelengths. Have us modify your camera to allow the reds to pass through to the sensor without any blocking of the hydrogen alpha wavelengths. Allowing for much higher sensitivity and thus shorter, less noisy exposures.

Anti Aliasing Filter Removal
Capture more detailed images by having us modify your camera by removing the AA Anti-Aliasing filter stack and replacing it with our non-AA replacement filter. This allows you to capture more image detail that would otherwise be blurred internally by the anti-aliasing filter. The main drawbacks are occasional moire patterns in some images and slight WB shift. For more information please visit the Anti-Aliasing Filter Removal blog post.
The dust reduction feature will continue to function normally as the AA filter sits between the dust reduction filter and the sensor.

NDVI Camera Conversion
Our NDVI vegetation stress camera conversion service allows your camera to capture blue, green and near-infrared light for use in vegetation stress or health monitoring by hand or UAV drone mapping. We use our own custom NDVI filters with high in-band transmission, strong out of band blocking, sharp cutoffs and wide angle of incidence characteristics.

Company warrants the conversion service for a period of 1 year from date of conversion order completion. The warranty is void if the tamper sticker is damaged or removed, converted components have been tampered with, subjected to any abuse or misuse, or if failure to operate properly arises from any foreign elements such as dirt, corrosion, or liquid identified as present within the converted components. The warranty does not cover any other components of the camera except the conversion service and components provided by Company as part of the conversion service.

After trying out infrared photography with the Hoya R72 filter I bought this camera with the 720nm conversion. The camera came well packaged with a (American) wall charger and battery. White balance was already set and the camera works well with my new and old Nikon lenses. The body looks nearly unused with a shutter count of a little more than 7000. No dust or anything on the sensor.
I will be using the camera mainly for video and at first I was afraid the relatively low bit rate would be a problem but the videos look great in 1080/30. Raw files look great as well but I won’t be pushing the ISO to high because of the small sensor. On the plus side the small sensor makes the camera body TINY so it’ll be easy to bring it along with my other cameras.
I will probably be using Lifepixel again in the future and I would recommend it to others. Now I just have to wait for spring to take some amazing photographs since we won’t be seeing the sun much until then up here in Norway!

I am a long time bird photographer who discovered that my birding kit (Nikon D500 and telephoto lenses) could be put to work after dark making images of the night sky. Last year I purchased my first real telescope, a William Optics 51mm Quad wide field astrograph. With the Nikon D500 attached, images of emission nebula were impressive…but not amazing like those of my peers who were using astro modified DSLR’s. I wanted one. My research and recommendations from friends led me to LifePixel. I considered having my D500 converted until I saw that LifePixel offered used bodies modified to my specifications. That option would benefit me in four ways. (1) My D500 would remain stock and not require any special WB correction when performing terrestrial duties. (2) The Ha modified D5500 (actually all of the 55xx series) continues to be rated the best Nikon camera for astrophotography. (3) The magic flipping/twisting rear monitor screen will keep my off of my knees for image reviews. (4) The D5500 weighs under 15 ounces, about half of the weight of my D500. My iOptron SkyGuider Pro will enjoy the lighter load. I placed the order and got my camera. Thoughtfully packaged. The camera body looks and functions as new. LifePixel obviously chooses the best when looking for used bodies. Shutter count was 5230. First light was on M8/M20, Lagoon and Trifid Nebulae. Amazing difference with the Ha mod. I can make shorter exposures using lower ISO’s. I now have color detail in the core of M8. The stock D500 sensor (and D300 and D700 that I previously used) blew out the core. I am extremely satisfied with the results. And for choosing LifePixel. They underpromised and overproduced.
